2-year-old, mom from Kolkata die in Sikkim accident

Darjeeling: Two tourists from Kolkata, including a two-and-a-half-year-old child, died, while four others, including the driver, were injured, after the vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident at Lamaten under Pakyong district in Sikkim on Saturday night.
The deceased were identified as Payal Shasmal (32) and Shreenika Shasmal. The injured were identified as Abhijit Ghosh (40), Amrita Ghosh (35), Shobhon Shasmal (35), all residents of Sealdah in Kolkata, and the driver, Ashish Khati, a resident of Tumin, East Sikkim.
Among the injured, Amrita fractured her right hand, Abhijit suffered a head injury, and Sobhon fractured both hislegs, while Avimrita Ghosh (10) was safe.
According to the FIR lodged by the police, a tourist SUV was heading to Rolep with six tourists from Kolkata. On the way, the vehicle met with an accident. The injured and the deceased were initially taken to Rongli Primary Health Centre.
After completing legal formalities, the deceased were transferred to STNM Hospital for post-mortem. The injured individuals, along with the driver, were also referred to STNM Hospital for better medical treatment.
DC Pakyong, Rohan Agawane, said, "Two tourists died when the vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident, which was en route Rolep from Aritar. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained as the driver and the injured tourists are in a state of shock and are undergoing treatment. Investigations have been initiated to trace the exact sequence of events."
The Rongli police have filed a case under Sections 281/125(a)/125(b)/106 of the BNS Act, 2023, read with Section 184 of the CMV Act, 1988.
