• Housing complexes get party-ready, gear up to ring in new year in style

  • 1234 Kolkata: The countdown has started among gated communities to unite over food, music and dance to bid adieu to 2024 and welcome the new year.

    Residents of South City Complex on Prince Anwar Shah Road are looking forward to a gala New Year's Eve party. Manoj Gupta, a resident of the complex, said, "The lawn on our campus will be decked up with colourful lights on the 31st night. This time two singers and a dance troupe will perform at the show. We will have 10-12 food stalls for the revellers."

    Residents of Siddha Pines in Rajarhat are set to usher in the New Year on a bigger scale. Manav Mehra, president of its RWA said, "This time we will put up 10 food stalls for the celebrations. About 400 residents will participate in the events which will start at 8 pm and continue till midnight."

    A large stage, a huge dance floor, a lavish cabana, and tables with butler service are set to rev up the party mood among the residents of Urbana, a condominium at Anandapur on Tuesday night. Playback singer Shruti Rane is slated to perform there while the Urbana cultural and sports forum has also invited DJ Vicky. "Around 500 residents will be treated to a scrumptious dinner and drinks as part of the celebrations," said Vishal Agarwal, resident of Urbana.

    At Urban Sabujayan complex in Kalikapur, the New Year's Eve celebration plans include a DJ show, a magic show for kids, food stalls, and green fireworks, according to Chayan Saha, secretary of its residents' committee.

    "Earlier, we used to celebrate the occasion in the community hall but this time we have elaborate plans with a DJ and food counters," said Abhijit Sur Roy Chowdhury, president of Sherwood apartment owners' association at Narendrapur.

    Power Towers, a housing complex at New Town, will turn a portion of the parking area into a party zone. Goutam Dasgupta, a resident, said, "DJ and dinner with cocktails are the main attractions of our celebrations this time. Around 100 residents will join the party."

    Residents of Loudon Park, a housing complex on Loudon Street, will be celebrating the New Year by holding a get-together, praying for good health, peace, and prosperity, according to its chairman, Rakesh Bhatia, who will be distributing sweaters among the underprivileged.
