• Boycott actors who abused us in name of protests, TMC tells netas

  • Kolkata: Trinamool Congress on Monday urged workers and functionaries with "TMC blood running in their veins" to boycott artists who had abused the party and CM Mamata Banerjee "in the name of RG Kar protests".

The statement comes in wake of workers questioning the role of party seniors hosting year-ender programmes where they invite and share stage with actors who had attacked the party barely two-and-a-half months back.

TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said: "The RG Kar incident is shameful, shocking and hurts our collective conscience. People will protest, speak against it. We did it too, even CM Banerjee spoke against the incident repeatedly. But we saw that some actors and artists... in the name of protests made distasteful, demeaning and disrespectful comments against TMC, its workers and even CM Banerjee. While democratic rights allow one to protest and criticise, to abuse and demean people based on distorted facts and lies is unacceptable."

Ghosh added, "We have nothing to say about actors publicly aligned to a particular party. They will attack us politically, and we also have a right to respond. But there are some who sway with the winds... why would these artists get a Trinamool platform? Let them go and work wherever they want barring events organised by Trinamool functionaries. Netas must understand that they have an additional responsibility to their workers and supporters. If any neta has any query on whom to invite or avoid, they can speak to the leadership."
