• No coercive action on Arjun till Jan 8: HC

  • 123 Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Monday directed police to not take coercive steps against former Barrackpore MP and BJP neta Arjun Singh till Jan 8 in connection with an FIR filed against him over a controversial statement.

    Bhatpara Municipality councillor Abhimanyu Tiwari had filed an FIR over Singh's allegation that "Bangladeshi jihadis want to kill (state leader of opposition) Suvendu Adhikari". He was served a notice on Dec 27 and approached the vacation bench of Justice Shampa Dutt (Paul) on Monday. The matter is scheduled to be heard on Jan 7 before the regular bench.

    The judge directed that no coercive action be taken against Singh till Jan 8 and the notice under BNSS Section 35(3) was also stayed till then.
