• Protest over 2 Singur train extensions

  • Singur: The extension of two Howrah-Singur local trains, one to Tarakeshwar and another to Haripal, prompted protests by Trinamool Congress workers and Singur locals on Wednesday. They argued that the local trains started by CM Mamata Banerjee 15 years ago, will pose hardships to the residents of Singur.

The railways, in a statement, said this will not only reduce travel time but will also help suburban commuters.

Becharam Manna, junior state minister said, "Two trains are a symbol of the Singur movement. Common passengers would suffer. The railways, instead of extending these trains, should provide more trains on the Howrah-Tarakeswar line. Until then, we will continue our movement."
