  • Kolkata: The engineering student whose rape complaint led to the arrest of a 20-year-old college student gave an in-camera statement before an Alipore judicial magistrate on Thursday. The student, in her FIR, had alleged that the accused — a friend from school — had spiked her drink and had raped her when she lost consciousness for 40 minutes at a friend's apartment on Dec 21.

The police on Thursday also recorded the statement of her friend in whose home the incident took place. According to the complaint, this person, along with the accused, had also dropped her home the same day. Police, however, refused to divulge any detail citing ongoing investigations.

It is learnt that the accused, now in a four-day police custody, was also taken by cops to the place where the incident took place and his version of events were recorded. Sources also said that while the girl will undergo a detailed medico-legal examination, the accused, too, will be medically examined.

The girl wrote in her complaint that the two were school friends but had lost touch after they passed out. Recently, they had struck up a connection over social media and had started meeting. But the youth's parents said he was innocent and was being framed.
