• 2 held for trying to sell child porn content online

  • Kolkata: A coordinated investigation by the ministry of home affairs' Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) and the West Bengal Cyber Crime Wing led to the arrest of two persons for trying to sell content related to child pornography and child exploitation online. Hooghly rural police district helped arrest Sudip Chakraborty (25) and Suvajit Murmu (25), both residents of Chanditala in Hooghly.

    ADG (cyber) H K Kusumakar said the accused collected child pornography content and sold it on social media channels to Europe. "The accused regularly visited some areas in south Kolkata. We are probing how they were involved in this business," said an officer.

    The state police launched the investigation, based on input from a helpline (CyberTipline) that works through the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), a part of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C). A case has been registered under Sections 67A/67B of the IT Act at Chanditala police station.

    An advisory was issued by the cyber wing that read, "The general public of Bengal is informed the creation, viewing, transmission, possession, sale, or purchase of any child exploitation material online is a serious offence under section 67B of the Information Technology Act and Sec 15 of the Pocso Act."
