Kolkata: The trial in the case of the rape of a seven-month-old girl living on the pavement in the Burtolla police station area is set to begin on Jan 7. The incident took place in Nov. Kolkata Police has submitted a charge sheet, barely 26 days after arresting the accused. The 13-page charge sheet has charges against Rajib Ghosh for abduction, rape, assault, and several sections under the Pocso Act. On Thursday, charges were framed in the special Pocso court of the Kolkata City Sessions Court.
Ghosh, alias Gobra, was arrested on the night of Dec 4 from Jhargram's Gopiballavpur. On Dec 30, the Burtolla police filed a charge sheet against the accused. On that day, the special Pocso court of the Kolkata City Sessions Court was closed. Hence, the police submitted the charge sheet to the ACJM (1) court in Kolkata.
Two witnesses have given confidential statements in court, and cops have cited 21 witnesses. "We submitted the completed forensic evidence in one of the shortest possible times," said an officer.
Special public prosecutor Saikat Pandey said, "It is our duty to conclude the trial process quickly in such cases."
