A panchayat member of the Gangulai village in North 24 Parganas informed the Company Commander of the Border Outpost in Mustafapur about the death of Abdul Khalid Mandal, a resident of the village in India. His sister, who lives in the border village of Sardar Baripota in Bangladesh, expressed her desire to bid farewell to her brother.

The Company Commander then coordinated with the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) to facilitate a meeting at the Zero Line (International Border).

Mandal’s sister and other relatives had a final glimpse of him at the Zero Line near the Border Outpost in Mustafapur. They expressed gratitude to the border forces on both the sides for taking the initiative.

N K Pandey, DIG, Public Relations Officer of the South Bengal Frontier, BSF, said, “BSF jawans not only guard the borders day and night but are also prepared to cater to the human and social needs of the people living along the International Border.”

Recent months have witnessed a significant escalation of tensions between India and Bangladesh. The arrest of a prominent Hindu religious leader Chinmoy Krishna Das in Bangladesh on sedition charges sparked widespread protests in India, culminating in an attack on the Bangladeshi consulate in Agartala. This incident, coupled with ongoing concerns about the alleged treatment of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, has strained diplomatic relations between the two nations.
