  • Kolkata: Repairs of the Bypass-bound flank of Maa, scheduled to start from 10 pm on Sunday, were delayed as the machine and special labourers needed for the work could not be arranged till late in the night. According to notification issued by the Kolkata Traffic Police on Saturday, the stretch was to remain shut every night from Sunday from 10 pm to 6 am for 15 days.

"The flyover stretch will be shut as soon as the labourers arrive with the machinery and start work. We need to see where the heavy equipment can be kept during the day. Alternative arrangements have been reviewed," said a traffic sergeant.

The traffic cops said they hoped the work would be complete before Republic Day. "Any delay now might hit Republic Day-related VIP movement," said an officer.

Vehicles availing AJC Bose Road flyover and Maa for eastward journey will be diverted via 7-Point Crossing, Suhrawardi Avenue, Darga Road, 4 No. Bridge and Park Circus connector before entering Bypass. The carriageway stretch that has developed wear and tear in several spots will be repaired by laying bituminous concrete, officials said.
