According to police sources, Biswas, a resident of Nachnapara Mullickkhali village in Patharghata, Barisal district, Bangladesh, had crossed the India-Bangladesh border a few days ago and was unable to produce any valid travel documents such as a passport or a visa. The Entally police station has registered a case against her under Section 14 of the Foreigners Act.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, two youths were arrested from Singur in connection with a passport forgery racket.
On Friday night, the Bardhaman police apprehended two persons Anirban Samant and Ganesh Chakraborty. While Samant’s family claims he was involved in making PAN cards, Chakraborty’s mother stated she was unaware of his involvement in any illegal activities.
The arrests come amid the ongoing probe into a passport forgery scam. The Lalbazar SIT has arrested several individuals, including Samaresh Biswas, his son Ripon Biswas, two post office workers, and a former SI of Kolkata Police, Abdul Hai. Investigations revealed that over 70 individuals obtained passports using forged documents.
