12 Jalpaiguri: A 34-year-old migrant labourer from Falakata is among those trapped in the coal mine in Assam's Umrangso.
Sanjit Sarkar, who has worked in various states as a migrant labourer, was employed at the coal mine in Assam.
His family includes his father Krishnapada, mother Rita Sarkar, wife Tumpa Sarkar and their four-year-old child.
Rita said, "My husband used to work in a coal mine. Now, when my son had the chance, he took up the same work. He went to Assam for this job. But this morning, someone called to inform us that my son is trapped in water inside the coal mine. We haven't been able to find any trace of him despite trying all day. We don't know how he is. My husband is on his way to the site, and we are waiting for any news he might bring."
Representatives from the Falakata block administration office and local police visited Sanjit's home. Alipurduar SP, Y Raghubanshi said, "We are in contact with both the family of the missing worker and the police and administration in the area in Assam where the incident occurred."
Sanjit's neigbour Sandhya said, "The entire village is deeply concerned about Sanjit. We hope he returns home safely."
