Another key accused in the fake birth certificate and passport case was intercepted last night from neighbouring Hooghly district, leading to five subsequent arrests in a fortnight. “He’s the kingpin and mastermind,” police said.
The cyber fraudsters, as the East Burdwan police busted, had floated a counterfeit website that they used as a tool for passport registration and forging birth certificates against payments. Rinka Das, a resident of Burdwan town had applied for a passport and the intelligence department of East Burdwan police was forwarded the application. After the hospital informed the police that the certificate was fake, the police began a probe.

“Bhaskar was the mastermind and key player in making fake documents. We’ve arrested him on Monday night from his residence,” said Sayok Das, SP, East Burdwan.
