  • 123 Kolkata: Sebaashray, the pet healthcare project launched by Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee, has served more than 1 lakh patients in seven days, the Trinamool general secretary shared on Wednesday.

"I am thrilled to announce that SEBAASHRAY successfully served over 100,000 (one lakh) people from a single assembly constituency on just the 7th day! This incredible feat would not have been possible without the relentless efforts of our doctors, nurses, volunteers, lab technicians, and everyone involved in the project. Your unwavering dedication and commitment to serving the people made this possible. This is an all-time record! Congratulations to everyone for this remarkable achievement!" Banerjee wrote on X.

As part of the programme, health camps will come up across the constituency's 71 rural gram panchayats and 93 urban wards for two and a half months, offering health check-ups, treatment, vital and emergency tests, emergency treatment and medicine free of cost. The initiative is supported by a camp machinery of 1,200 doctors, 500 diagnosticians, 1,500 volunteers and 12 referral hospitals in Kolkata and South 24 Parganas.

On Wednesday, 41 camps at Diamond Harbour had a footfall of 30,480 patients, of whom 10,708 underwent multiple diagnostic tests, 10,183 were given medicines and 299 were referred to hospitals for further treatment.

Banerjee shared that 1,07,570 people had registered with the service since it was launched last Thursday.

Among the highlights, officials said Banerjee ensured treatment for a 2-year-old girl from Jalpaiguri who was deaf and mute and also facilitated timely heart surgery for a 9-year-old.

"Urgent medical assistance to a man who suffered cardiac arrest and a 9-year-old girl, Sadika Sultana from Bagda, who met with an accident, was promptly referred to Diamond Harbour Medical College & Hospital where she got the required assistance. Thousands of people received free medication and sophisticated tests like bone density tests (that costs Rs 2,000 at private clinics) at Sebaashray camps for free," said an official who is part of the project.
