Kolkata: The state regional vice-president of a Kolkata-based MSME (micro, small, and medium enterprises) company, Amitava Bose (52), was abducted by a gang of six for a ransom of Rs 1 crore on Sunday. But cops from the Duttapukur police station managed to rescue him by Tuesday morning from inside an SUV, which they intercepted on Chakdah-Bongaon Road in Bishnupur and brought him back home safe.
Three of the accused, Madhyamgram's Shantanu Dey, Shamik Dasgupta, and Govinda Roy, were arrested. Cops are on the lookout of the others, including the alleged mastermind, Poulami Ghosh, an employee at Bose's company.
Police said Poulami, a Dum Dum resident, had called Bose around 2:30 pm on Sunday and asked him to meet her at Barasat Dukbunglow More on the pretext of a meeting about a new project. "As Bose arrived on his motorbike, the gang, led by Poulami, forced him into an SUV. They confined him to a house near an abandoned petrol pump," SI at Duttapukur PS Sujit Dey told TOI.
Meanwhile, Bose's family grew worried when they found his mobile switched off. "I was shocked when I received a call, demanding Rs 1 crore for his release. The abductors even threatened to kill him," said Jhuma, Bose's wife. Alerted, a police started tracking his mobile, which was repeatedly switched off. Despite the gang's attempt at changing locations, cops intercepted the SUV on Chakdah-Bongaon Road.
