123 Nagorik Chetona, a civil society collective with citizens from different walks of life, sent an email to CM Mamata Banerjee and other govt officials demanding long-term policy for safety of women. The demands include establishment of internal complaints committees at workplaces and local complaints committees at the district level to address sexual harassment cases, comprehensive police reforms and awareness campaigns, safe public transport, introduction of women-only buses on major routes with panic buttons and compulsory legal awareness and gender sensitisation for students. The letter was signed by 50 individuals, including academic Partha Chatterjee, former MP Jawhar Sircar, filmmaker Aparna Sen, author Amit Chaudhuri. tnn
