  • 123 Kolkata: A fresh complaint of attempt to murder was filed against suspended Trinamool neta and former MLA Arabul Islam and his son Hakimul at Bhangar's Bijoyganj PS on Saturday.

Ahsan Molla, the forest and land officer of Bhangar-1, accused Arabul and Hakimul of orchestrating an assault that nearly claimed his life at the Bhangar-2 BDO office on Thursday. The incident occurred just a day before Arabul's suspension from TMC for anti-party activities.

Molla claimed he was attacked while visiting the office for land registry work. "If police weren't there that day, I would have been killed," he said.

Khairul Islam, a close associate of Trinamool MLA and Bhangar's party observer Shaukat Molla, also reported death threats while entering the panchayat office.

Hakimul defended his father, claiming that on Thursday, they received no support from the police or administration despite Arabul's position as panchayat samiti president. He alleged that outsiders from Bhangar-1 insulted his father and were "planning to create unrest".

Police have already arrested one person following Thursday's incident. The latest complaint named Arabul, Hakimul and 10 others. Both Arabul and his son declined to comment on the police complaint.

The incident has further intensified political tension in Bhangar, with local TMC functionaries demanding immediate action against the accused.
