123 Kolkata: Union culture and tourism minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Saturday said every human being should not act as the "owner" of this planet but as its "custodian".
"We have to behave with responsibility. Climate change is a big issue. When discussion about the greenhouse effect and global warming began 25 years ago, many might have thought its effect would be in specific areas. Those living in cold regions should no longer think global warming will only affect tropical hot places. Similarly, people living in non-coastal regions should not think a rise in sea levels will only impact those near the sea," the minister said at the inauguration of a climate change gallery — ‘On the Edge' — at Science City, Kolkata.
Shekhawat said every kid as a stakeholder should play their role, not only whistleblower scientists.
Spread over 10,000 sq ft across two storeys, the gallery offers an immersive experience that blends cutting-edge technology with compelling storytelling to highlight the need for collective action.
"Visitors here will gain a deeper understanding of the devastating impact of climate change and the critical strategies for mitigation, adaptation," said A D Choudhury, director-general, National Council of Science Museums. Science City Kolkata Director Anurag Kumar said, "It is more than an exhibition. It's a journey of realisation and empowerment."
