  • Kolkata: Through the public announcement system, passengers at the Esplanade, Mahakaran, Howrah, and Howrah Maidan Metro stations were informed that there would be no service on the East-West Metro's under-river section today and next Sunday due to signal and telecommunication tests.

Metro Railway stated on Friday that "to conduct interlocking tests for the communication-based train control system between Sector V and Howrah Maidan stretch of the Green line, no service will be available on Green Line 2 or the Esplanade-Howrah Maidan section on Jan 12 and Jan 19". Passengers of the Sector V-Sealdah section will not be affected because this 9.2-km stretch anyway does not have Sunday runs.

"The closure on the two consecutive Sundays is required for interlocking tests, which are essential to interface and integrate both software and hardware of the system on the entire stretch from Howrah Maidan to Sector V," an official of Metro Railway.
