  • Malda: Police have begun an investigation after complaints that 12 students of Enayetpur High School, who filled in relevant forms in 2020-21, have not received their Kanyashree benefits.

Under the scheme, girls, after turning 18, have to fill in a K-2 form and furnish their academic and bank details. These need to be approved by their school principal. Once processed, the girls receive Rs 25,000 in their bank accounts.

Headmaster Md Badruzzaman, on scrutinising the forms, claimed he had detected an anomaly. Badruzzaman said he found each of these girls bore the account number of a specific branch of particular bank. The students had accounts in different banks.

A total of 42 girls had applied for K-2 in this batch. The headmaster said, "So far, we have found 12 cases and are looking for others." A complaint was lodged at Manikchak police station by the school.

"Sunanda Mazumder, the current assistant headmaster, was the teacher in charge during that period. He has his signature under each form. He has to take responsibility," Badruzzaman said.

Mazumder denied all the allegations. "It is a ploy against me. As I'm vocal against the corruption of the headmaster, he is trying to frame me with a false signature and seal," he said.
