Malda: The mutilated body of a 20-year-old Malda girl, who studied engineering in Jharkhand's Dumka, was found by the Ganga in Farakka on Sunday, a week after she went missing.
Father Debcharan Bhagat claimed an unknown caller contacted him on Saturday and demanded Rs 2 lakh for providing his daughter's location.
A resident of Barduari, Dipti boarded the Kulik Express from Harishchandrapur on Jan 5 morning. She was supposed to get down at Rampurhat in Birbhum and catch a Dumka-bound bus from there. She was in touch with her family till the train reached Malda at 9am but became unreachable after that.
The worried family contacted everyone they knew, including her college, but she could not be traced.
Two days later, a person found a bag and some papers on a bridge at NTPC, Farakka, and deposited them with the police. They belonged to Dipti.
CCTV footage later revealed that Dipti got down at New Farakka station on that day, much before the train reached Rampurhat. On Sunday, police found her body at Sankartola ghat.
