  • 12 Kolkata: Calcutta High Court Judge Tirthankar Ghosh on Tuesday suspended the appearance of advocates over video conferencing in his court due to lack of decorum and "ill behaviour" of advocates.

During a proceeding, the advocate representing the respondent appeared online with people shouting in the background. This irked Justice Ghosh. Other advocates present in the court alerted the advocate appearing virtually to mute his screen and the judge reprimanded him.

"In view of the lawyers being unable to conduct themselves properly in a proper atmosphere... the appearance of the advocates through virtual mode is suspended for the day," he stated.

"I have suspended it because of the ill behaviour of the advocates... nobody is taking care. Buses going on, other people shouting... Abusive languages behind. Therefore, I directed Registrar IT to suspend any participation of lawyers virtually," Justice Ghosh later informed the advocates.
