12 Purulia: Four goat carcasses were discovered in a forest in Gangamanna, Purulia, near the Jharkhand border on Tuesday night. On Wednesday morning, two dogs were found killed near Birudih, in the same district and approximately seven kilometres away.
However, forest officials after examining the bite patterns on the dogs, ruled out the possibility of a tiger attack. "We cannot link the two incidents. This is not the work of a tiger. Our veterinarians and officials have examined the carcasses of both the dogs and the goats and confirmed that the attacks were not carried out by a tiger," stated chief wildlife warden Debal Roy.
He added that no fresh pugmarks were found on Wednesday along the Jhargram-Purulia border. Trap cameras and cages have been set up at various locations and patrolling efforts are ongoing to locate the big cat.
Meanwhile, Jamshedpur divisional forest officer Saba Alam Ansari reported no evidence of pugmarks or tiger movement in the Dalma Sanctuary or nearby forests bordering Purulia.
