  • 12 Kolkata: Kolkata Police on Friday issued a charge sheet naming six persons, including those with Bihar links, for the murder bid on Trinamool councillor Sushanta Ghosh on Nov 15. Cops have arrested seven persons — the last on Jan 12, when Bihar gangster Md Adil Hussain was arrested from Kolkata airport on his return from Abu Dhabi.

The rest, including mastermind Mohammad Afroz Khan alias Gulzar (45), have been implicated for attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence.

Others include Yuvraj Kumar, the 18-year-old sharpshooter whose improvised revolver jammed, saving Ghosh's life; Gulshan Colony residents Ahmed Khan (45), Md Phool Babu (45), Md Ali alias Ali Chacha (65) and Laxman Kumar Sharma alias Chotu, a resident of Bihar's Vaishali who stayed in Tollygunge.

The charge sheet says a land deal gone wrong in Gulshan Colony prompted Gulzar to contact Bihar criminals and hatch a plan to kill Ghosh. The gang, police said, tried to attack Ghosh — whom they blamed for their botched land deal — twice before. On Nov 15, Ghosh was at his office-cum-residence on Rajdanga Main Road, when the attack happened.
