During their journey, the jumbo duo crossed Damodar and Ajoy rivers, a canal, a highway and railway tracks. As many as 50 forest personnel and senior officers divided in five teams had been tracking them since Thursday.

Chief conservator of forest Bidyut Sarkar said that the tuskers first crossed Damodar to enter West Burdwan's Kanksa from Bankura's Sonamukhi.Saif Ali Khan Health UpdateDoctors give health update: 'Saif needs rest; spine injury may get infected''Kitna time lagega': Auto driver recounts rushing Saif Ali Khan to hospital after attackUrvashi apologises for insensitive remarks on Saif"After that, they crossed a highway to enter Gopalpur town in Durgapur subdivision on Thursday morning. Forest teams started tracking the tuskers since Thursday afternoon and tried to drive them back towards Damodar. But there was a big canal, railway tracks, and a highway. As it was getting dark, we had to abandon the operation on Thursday," Sarkar said.

The elephants crossed the Ajoy to enter Birbhum's Jaydev Kenduli and were spotted near a water body on Friday morning. "Our tranquillization team darted both the jumbos there and after necessary health checks, arrangements were made to transport them for their release," he added.

State head of forest Debal Roy confirmed that both were released in a safe location late on Friday afternoon.
