S Kol to go without water from 9 am today till 6 am tomorrow

Kolkata: Major parts of south Kolkata will go dry on Saturday as the KMC water supply department will shut the Garden Reach treatment plant for repair and maintenance work.
According to a civic official, water supply will be suspended in areas including Garden Reach, Kalighat, Chetla, Tollygunge-Jadavpur belt, Garia, Behala, parts of Kasba and Garfa, after 9 am on Saturday and resumed around 6 am on Sunday. No water will be supplied to booster pumping stations at Ranikuthi, Parnasree, Kasba and Garfa among others. "As these pumping stations will not get water, the residents will receive no water," said a KMC water supply department official.
He pointed out that this repair was taken up in winter, when the demand for water was usually low and so, the supply could be suspended without creating much inconvenience to recipients. "We have to shut the plant and suspend supply for a day to take up major upgrade and repair work at Garden Reach water works and at major booster pumping stations," said a KMC official.
