12 Kolkata: Maharatna PSU Coal India (CIL) is likely to witness a drop in production this year. It is expected to produce 806-810 million tonnes this fiscal, compared to 838 million tonnes last fiscal.
"Four companies — Mahanadi Coalfields (MCL), Western Coalfields (WCL), Eastern Coalfields (ECL), and Bharat Coking Coal (BCCL) — are ahead of their production targets. However, how much South Eastern Coalfields (SECL), which has bigger mines, produces in the next 75 days remains to be seen. The production is picking up," said Coal India chairman P M Prasad here on Friday. "We are still planning to produce 806-810 million tonnes of coal for FY25," Prasad added. He was here to announce the upcoming 11th edition of the Asian Mining Congress, 2025, to be held in Kolkata from Oct-Nov.
Coal India's production grew 2.2% year-on-year to 543.4 million tonnes during the first nine months of the current financial year, compared to 531.9 million tonnes in the corresponding period last fiscal. Prasad said the company was expected to meet the coal production target for the next financial year. "In FY26, our target is almost close to 900 million tonnes. We are optimistic that next year there will be good growth," he said.
