12 Kolkata: A day before the RG Kar verdict is pronounced on Saturday, parents of the deceased PGT doctor, who was found raped and murdered on Aug 9, felt their daughter was one step closer to getting justice.
"We are not happy with the investigation. We have reasons to believe there were others involved in the crime. But Sanjay Roy's judgment will take us one step towards getting justice for our daughter," the father said. "We have been suspecting ill motives behind the chain of events at the chest medicine department. There were 30 PGTs who were signatories to the order to demolish the bathroom in the chest medicine department. Engineers and other officials, including the former RG Kar principal, Sandip Ghosh, who endorsed the order. We suspect it was done to hush up something."
The bereaved mother feels an "invisible hand" orchestrated the entire episode after the incident. "The hospital authorities did not even take the initiative to lodge an FIR. That itself raises suspicion. We have raised 54 questions, and the CBI will have to answer them. In the MIMB (Multi Institutional Medical Board) report, a doctor has given an opinion, claiming one person could commit both the rape and murder. How can that be possible? We will get to the bottom of it," she said.
Earlier, the parents had approached the Calcutta High Court, unhappy with the probe progress. After they were asked to seek clarification from a forum about their plea, the advocate representing the parents at the HC sought an adjournment till Jan 31. An application was also filed before the Supreme Court.
But they felt the judgment on Saturday would be the first step. "We will not allow the probe to stop until we get all the answers. People are also suspecting there was a concerted effort to demotivate people from protesting on the streets. But it cannot be stopped," said the doctor's father.
