123 Kolkata: Bengal govt has asked district magistrates to see to it so that there was no sudden escalation in the price of building material, ensuring that beneficiaries of the Banglar Bari scheme did not face any problem. Complaints reached Nabanna recently that in some districts there was a crisis in the availability of building material, and this was being created to increase the prices.
The panchayat department has also asked officials to display Banglar Bari logos at the entrance of the beneficiaries' homes. Earlier, Centre used to put a logo on houses built under PMAY, but since Bengal was deprived of the funds, CM Mamata Banerjee decided to build houses for the rural poor from the state exchequer.
An official said that beneficiaries had been asked to use the first instalment fund for building the house up to a certain level, failing which they would not receive the second tranche.
