123 Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation water supply department on Saturday successfully completed the repair and maintenance of Garden Reach water treatment plant and necessary maintenance works at some water booster pumping stations across south Kolkata. Water supply to vast areas of south Kolkata was suspended from 9 am on Saturday to facilitate the repair and maintenance work. Normal supply from Garden Reach will resume at 6 am on Sunday, said a KMC water supply department official.
According to the civic official, the KMC water supply department had roped in over 250 skilled workers at Garden Reach for repair and maintenance work. Another 100 workers were engaged at different booster pumping stations for urgent maintenance work. "We had taken up a comprehensive repair and maintenance work at Garden Reach water treatment plant keeping in mind our commitment to supply adequate water during the peak of summer when the demand for filtered water goes up. The repair and maintenance work were carried out under the supervision of experts and the work has been completed successfully. We are ready to supply water from Garden Reach as per schedule from tomorrow morning," said a civic official.
