123 Kolkata: Three alleged Rohingya nationals – two of them minor girls aged 12 years and 10 years – were apprehended by the Sealdah GRP after they were found loitering suspiciously outside Sealdah Railway Station main gate early on Saturday morning.
The police said that Abdul Rehman (35), from the Bhushidam area in Myanmar's Rakhine province, sneaked into India about six years ago and set up a base in Kashmir. He was instrumental in getting some other Rohingyas settled in Kashmir, among relatives of the two girls.
"On Saturday, Abdul was trying to take the two girls to their relatives in Kashmir from Cox Bazar camp in Bangladesh. They crossed the Gede border illegally a few days ago and were staying at Bagula. On Saturday, they arrived on a local train to Sealdah and began inquiring about the Jammu Tawi Express that now runs from Kolkata Station. This was noticed by the TTs who informed RPF. Our officers also went to the spot after being informed, and when we asked them to produce documents, they had none. We have sent the two girls to a home on orders from the Child Welfare Committee and taken Abdul – who is under arrest – into five days of police custody," said a senior Sealdah GRP official. Abdul is accused of attempting to take the two minors to Kashmir under the pretense of work, using Bengal as a corridor.
Meanwhile, an Afghan youth was reportedly arrested by Kolkata Police for plotting to get a passport issued in his name using forged documents. He came to Kolkata from Afghanistan five and a half years ago and assumed a new identity. Khalid Nawroz Khalil reportedly became Syed Akbar Khan in Kolkata. The date of birth differed by three years, said investigators, though both persons were the same. When these documents came to light, security control intelligence became suspicious.
After interrogating Nawroz, also known as Akbar, for a long time, the SCO's intelligence officers arrested him. When he was presented in Alipore court on Friday, his lawyer applied for bail, which was rejected, and the judge ordered that Akbar, alias Nawroz, be kept in police custody until Jan 24.
