• Kolkata kicks off week with fun Sunday as Happy Streets returns

  • 12 Kolkata: The city woke up to a fun-filled Sunday morning with Happy Streets, organised by The Times of India, presented by Shyam Steel Industries Ltd, and powered by PS Group and Manipal Hospitals, along with education partner Adamas Kids in association with Bidhannagar City Police. The event was held beside the City Square ground in front of Central Mall in New Town on the lane towards the mall.

REPORTHe was accompanied on stage by Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation ward 1 councillor Pinaki Nandi, Suparn Pathak from RRSC-East, ISRO, Vinod Jain, vice-president of Shyam Steels, Sreelogna Nandy, marketing manager of PS Group, Soumya Mehta from Manipal Hospitals, and Surojit Biswas, CEO-school business & president, chairman's office, chairman cell from Adamas Kids.

    The crowd was full of enthusiasm and soaked in the spirit of the carnival-like atmosphere. Like previous years, there were several activities, like cricket, badminton, football, basketball, volleyball, hula-hoop, tug of war, golf, skipping rope, hitting the target, snakes-and-ladders, and a kids' zone for all to enjoy.

    Besides, there were partnered activities, including cycle hobby group partnered by CNG Group, yoga and fitness by Mistic Yoga, karate by World JKF Goju-kai/Takuji-Kenbukan Association, roller skating by Fun on Wheels, and zumba with Satish Routh. There was also a blood donation camp organised by Project Life Force, street art/installation by Bappa Bhowmick and a musical performance by Namheen Band.

    Chatterjee said, "Thanks to TOI for inviting me. It was a fantastic experience, and I congratulate TOI for organising such a wonderful event,"

    Pathak said, "This community event being organised by TOI and various sponsors emphasises family time, education, health, sports, and other community engagement. This momentous occasion marks a significant milestone in our journey to promote sports and physical fitness in our community."

    Nandi congratulated TOI for organising Happy Streets, saying he wanted the event to be held more frequently.

    "Happy Streets by TOI is a fantastic initiative. It was heartening to see the turnout. Year after year, this is one event people in New Town wait for, and the enthusiasm we see is electrifying. Kudos to TOI for such an innovative event. Looking forward to the next year," said Pincle Nandi, a resident of New Town and member of New Town Forum.

    Happy Streets will next be held on the coming Sunday in front of Central Park in Salt Lake.
