• ‘Hope scope for more probe emerges today’

  • Kolkata: When the court spells out the quantum of punishment for Sanjay Roy on Monday, friends and colleagues of the 31-year-old rape-murder victim will be keeping their fingers crossed, hoping for further investigation scope to emerge from the court. Most of the prominent faces of the junior doctors' movement will be on patient care duty during the court proceedings on Monday.

"We know the punishment will be either death or life imprisonment. What we look forward to from the court on Monday is something on the supplementary charge sheet, as we believe Roy alone could not have committed the crime," said Aniket Mahata of the West Bengal Junior Doctors' Front. The anaesthesia PGT will, however, be on duty around that time.

Some members of the WBJDF who will not be on duty may turn up near Sealdah court on Monday. "We hope a scope for further investigation emerges during the sentencing of Roy," said ENT PGT Asfakulla Naiya.

While the WBJDF organised a protest march on Saturday near Sealdah court, no such protest has been planned for Monday.
