Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who was in Alipurduar on Wednesday to address an administrative meeting expressed her strong disapproval over the language on a ‘poster’ on display at the guest house where she was residing.
The CM who photographed the poster and presented it during the meeting asked, “Is this a language?”. The message on the poster allegedly threatened to shoot smugglers if caught. She emphasized the importance of addressing offenders in accordance with the law and said that such matters should be discussed with the District Magistrate and it was inappropriate to post notices on government land without proper authorization.
However, forest department clarified that the posters were not put up by their department.
Further, raising concerns over the treatment of those who mistakenly enter forest areas, CM Banerjee instructed the District Forest Officer to ask the forest officials to first look into the matter and then take action against individuals, emphasizing the need for caution and awareness.
CM Banerjee addressed complaints raised by Alipurduar MLA Suman Kanjilal regarding the high fees levied on tourists visiting Rajabhatkhawa. Kanjilal noted that tourists were being asked to pay as much as two and a half thousand rupees, if they brought a car. The CM assured that no such fees would be imposed, and a decision would be made through a cabinet meeting.
Additionally, Banerjee also discussed the issues surrounding homestays, resorts, hotels in Buksa area.While she defended the individuals’ right to convert their homes into homestays, she criticised the objections raised by the NGT. The CM also questioned how local authorities were permitting the construction of large houses in hilly forested regions.
While addressing the issues of corruption, the CM strongly condemned practice of “cut money”. She vowed that anyone demanding money for government projects would face strict action, including filing FIRs and urged district officials to remain efficient in addressing people’s complaints.
