Kolkata: The state health department has nominated Ashim Kumar Sarkar to the West Bengal Medical Council (WBMC) as the state's representative. This comes weeks after the health department cancelled former TMC MP Santanu Sen's nomination as the state nominee.
After the RG Kar incident, the larger medical community alleged the WBMC is a hub of corruption, with many members accused of running a health syndicate. RG Kar's former principal Sandip Ghosh and some junior doctors accused of promoting a culture of threats were members of the committee. While some of them were expelled from the council, other members remain. tnn
