123 Kolkata: A G+5 building in Narayanpur under Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) ward 3, close to the airport, which is a hostel for the nursing staff of a private hospital, was found to be dangerously tilted, leading to safety concerns among the residents of nearby houses.
The nursing staff have moved out as the building (right in pic) have been evacuated a few days ago following intervention by the BMC as the latter will initiate the process to demolish the building at the earliest.
"Engineers will place a report and a notice will also be issued to call the building owner. The building condition will be checked as to whether it needs to be demolished. Action will be taken as per the legal provisions," said BMC mayor Krishna Chakraborty.
Local councillor Aratrika Bhattacharya said the building was constructed in 2002. "Recently, it came to our notice that it is tilted. A notice has been issued. The nurses who used to stay there had appealed to us to give them some time to move out and all of them completed the process of shifting out of the building by Wednesday," said Bhattacharya, also an MMiC.
Bhattacharya said that civic engineers have already inspected the building and further inspections will be conducted.
