Belgharia structure keels over onto neighbouring bldg

123 Kolkata: A five-storey building in Belgharia has tilted towards an adjacent multi-storey building, triggering panic among locals at ward 6 of Kamarhati Municipality on Thursday. This comes a couple of days after an illegal, under-construction four-storey building leaned onto a neighbouring school building in a nearby ward on Tuesday.
According to locals, the five-storey illegal building in Belgharia's Sasthitala, which had started tilting nearly six months ago after completion of construction, further leaned onto a neighbouring building on Thursday morning. "It was constructed illegally while we had raised concerns about the construction months earlier. The promoter did not follow regulations. The flat buyers didn't dare to enter to take possession of their flats," said Mohammad Sahid Hossain, a local resident.
Kamarhati Municipality chairman Gopal Saha, the local councillor, civic officials and engineers and police inspected the site and ordered immediate demolition. "The structure is unauthorized and no plan was sanctioned," Saha said.
