  • Kolkata: Thirteen photographs clicked by Rina Das, the associate professor of FMT at RG Kar Medical College, on her own while she was conducting postmortem in the RG Kar rape murder case, along with two other experts on Aug 9, proved vital for CBI to press charges against Sanjoy Roy during the trial.

The reason why Das clicked photographs personally was detailed in the Jan 21 judgment. "She deposed that the entire postmortem procedure was videographed and that during the postmortem procedure, she took some snaps of the said postmortem on her personal mobile phone. From her evidence, we also came to know that the said victim was an on-duty doctor (PGT) of RG Kar Hospital, and as her death took place while she was on duty in the hospital, the said prosecution witness thought that it would be considered a custodial death as the said deceased doctor was under the custody of the head of the institute of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, and as such, she took the snaps," the judgment stated.

Das asked for a specific cop order on Aug 9 before the postmortem "as the body arrived at the morgue at 5.10 pm and as the said time crossed the specific time mentioned in the SOP and the memorandum of the Bengal govt". This was complied with.
