1 killed, 2 injured as bike with 3 hits New Town divider

123 Kolkata: A young woman working at a Sector V firm was killed and two of her friends suffered multiple injures after the bike they were riding in New Town rammed into a roadside divider during the wee hours of Friday. None wore helmets.
Cops identified the deceased woman as McNally Das (28), who hailed from Nadia. She had been staying at a rented a flat in the Sukhabrishti housing complex in New Town. Police learnt that the trio had dinner and a small get-together at Das's flat, after which they went out to buy cigarettes. Finding the shop outside the complex closed, they went for a ride to another store a bit farther, where they could make UPI payment for the cigarettes. The accident occurred when the trio was returning to the flat.
"The biker lost control when the vehicle was descending the Shapoorji bridge at a considerable speed. The deceased woman, riding pillion, was flung off the bike and fell on her spine. She suffered a head injury," said a senior officer of Bidhannagar city police.
Cops said passing motorists, who were the first to spot the three lying on the side of the road, alerted police. The cops shifted the trio to Bidhannagar Subdivisional Hospital, where the woman was declared dead on arrival. Her friends were admitted to the hospital.
On Thursday evening, a medicine delivery agent, Lakshminarayan Patra (45) of Cossipore, died after being hit by a bike in Baguiati's Gouranganagar area while he was crossing the road. Cops rushed him to RG Kar Hospital, where he succumbed to the injuries. The errant biker was also injured.
On Wednesday, Partha De of Tangra, died after being hit by a reckless lorry at New Town's Akankha crossing.
