123 Kolkata: ‘Nari Shakti' will be on display on Red Road during the 50-minute Republic Day parade with the highest number of Bengal and Kolkata Police women personnel marching. Bengal RAF women unit and all-women Kolkata Police "Winners" unit will also be part of the parade.
The final full dress rehearsal on Monday saw these units march shoulder to shoulder with their male counterparts, with the all-girl school contingent — one of the four schools participating this year — adding to the numbers. "The decision to showcase women forces was a conscious one, as all these units now play an important role in maintaining law and order in the city. Since 2023, they have been part of the marching units, their numbers growing each year," said a senior officer.
Police will be displaying Winners, Disaster Management Group, the motorcycle unit and the RAF along with traffic during the parade.
