An unidentified body of a woman was found at the ground floor of a two-storied residential building in Diamond Park, in Kolkata on Thursday, said officials of the Haridevpur police station.

A team of investigators from the homicide department, along with forensic experts and a sniffer dog, visited the crime scene to gather evidence.

According to police sources a case of murder has been lodged and investigation has been initiated, while the post mortem would be conducted on Friday. Probe is on to identify the victim, said sources.

According to police sources, the owner of the house noticed blood in front of the door of the rented room and alerted the police. The woman, nearly 30 years of age, had recently rented the apartment with her partner whom she claimed to be her husband, the sources said, adding that when the police broke open the door they found the woman lying on a mattress with a cloth stuffed in her mouth, her hands and legs tied and her throat slit.

When the police enquired about the woman’s husband he was missing and his mobile phone unreachable.
