BSF unearths 4 bunkers full of cough syrup in mango orchard

123 Nadia: BSF unearthed four bunkers containing 62,200 bottles of Phensedyl near Sudharanjan Lahiri College in Nadia. While three of them were found on Friday, one was discovered on Saturday. The cough syrup recovered in the operation was worth Rs 1.4 crore. BSF suspects that such bunkers may have been used to store explosives, too.
"The 20-hour search ops ended on Saturday 1pm. Two bighas of mango orchard were completely sealed off for searches. All four bunkers were found in the orchard," said an officer. BSF has extracted the bunkers.
"Two of the storage tanks were built under dense vegetation, while one was built under a hut made of CGI sheets.Another was found inside an abandoned house," said a BSF statement.
BSF 32nd Battalion commandant Sujit Kumar said: "So far, the banned cough syrup we've found would fill five trucks."
DSP Shilpi Pal said, "Preliminary investigations suggest the cough syrups were stored for smuggling."
