The CID on Friday interrogated two doctors in connection with the death of a woman and four other women falling critically ill following childbirth after they were allegedly administered ‘expired’ intravenous (IV) fluid at the Midnapore Medical College and Hospital, in Paschim Medinipur district, earlier this month.
The two, Dilip Kumar Pal and Himadri Naik, are among the 12 doctors at MMCH, who were suspended by the West Bengal government for “negligence” in connection with the incident at the state-run medical college. According to officials, Pal and Naik, were scheduled to be in the operating theatre on the day the woman died post delivery, but were allegedly absent from the government hospital.
CM Mamata Banerjee had ordered a CID probe into it emphasizing zero tolerance for negligence. Acknowledging potential negligence, Chief Secretary Manoj Pant had said the junior doctors handled the situation without senior supervision.
