  • Kolkata: The Bengal Police and Kolkata Police have bagged 22 President's Medals for Distinguished Service (PSM) and Medals for Meritorious Service (MSM). Out of these, two officers received the President's Medal, and the rest received the meritorious medals. In all, 85 cops and CAPF personnel received the PSM across the country, while another 634 received the MSM.

    The two officers who received the President's Medal are Dip Narayan Goswami, IG at the Bengal STF, and Samir Kumar Panja, ACP (traffic), Kolkata Police. Among the officers who received the MSM are SP Dyutiman Bhattacharya, ACP Debasish Ghosh, ACP Subhasish Bhattacharjee, ACP Somjit Sur, ACP Jayanta Kumar Saha, ACP Nandadulal Ghosh, inspectors Sumit Dasgupta and Bibhas Deb.

    Yet again, Bengal missed out on the Gallantry Awards, which are awarded on the "ground of rare conspicuous act of gallantry and conspicuous act of gallantry respectively in saving life and property, or in preventing crime or arresting criminals," as per a central govt release.
