• Salt Lake bonds over games as Happy Streets rules hearts

  • Kolkata: It was yet another fun-filled winter morning as ‘Happy Streets 2025', organised by The Times of India and presented by Shyam Steel Industries Ltd and powered by S Group and Manipal Hospitals along with education partner Adamas Kids in association with Bidhannagar police, returned to the city on Sunday. The event took place at the T-junction in front of the Central Park main gate in Salt Lake with much fun and merriment.

    Bidhannagar MLA and state fire & emergency services department minister Sujit Bose, who was present at the venue, said: "It's great to see so many people participating with some playing games, some dancing and some others engaged in fun activities. I thank The Times of India for this initiative that brings so many people together."

    Actor Gourab Chatterjee was also present on the occasion. "I have heard of this event but could never make it earlier. It's a wonderful event and it's lovely to be here. It's great to see so many people running, cycling, dancing and doing other activities with so much energy," he said. Actor Alivia Sarkar was present in the previous ‘Happy Streets' edition that took place in New Town on Jan 19.

    Bidhannagar police commissioner Mukesh congratulated TOI for organising ‘Happy Streets'. "Congrats everyone. Stay fit, stay healthy. I will try to join next week's programme as well," he said.

    The crowd that started to pour in was full of enthusiasm and soaked in the carnival-like spirit. There were several activities like cricket, badminton, football, basketball, volleyball, hula hoop, tug of war, golf, skipping rope, hitting the target, snake ladder and a kids zone. Besides, there were partnered activities like cycle hobby group partnered by CNG group, yoga and fitness by Mistic Yoga, karate by World JKF Goju-kai/Takuji-Kenbukan Association, roller skating by Fun on Wheels and zumba with Satish Routh. There was a street art installation by Bappa Bhowmick and musical performance by Namheen Band.

    Suket Beriwal, director Shyam Steel, said it was a proud moment to partner with TOI for the initiative. Dilip Roy, hospital director at Manipal Hospital-Dhakuria, added that this initiative had been a remarkable experience.

    Kishen Goel, consultant emergency and cluster head at Manipal Hospital Broadway & Salt Lake, said this initiative emphasised health and wellness in today's world, making a powerful, positive impact on society. Titiksha Bakshi from Adamas Kids was pleasantly surprised to see so many happy faces early in the morning.

    The next ‘Happy Streets' will take place in Lake Town this Sunday.
