  • 12 Kolkata: A G+5 storied building was found tilting towards a four-storied building at Lake Town Dakshindari, triggering panic among the residents.

"It is a very dangerous situation. We are already thinking of shifting out at the earliest," said a resident. "The building appears to be in a seriously damaged condition. The civic authorities must take steps," said another resident.

Local MLA and minister Sujit Bose, however, said that the building tilted some time back and that it was not a new case. "The building has settled in this position for the last two years. Notices have already been issued," Bose said.

Local South Dum Dum civic officials said civic engineers will conduct a fresh inspection of the building, following which appropriate steps will be taken. Officials said it will be assessed whether the building had tilted due to subsidence or whether there was some construction lapses.

Regarding the tilted building in Rajarhat Narayanpur and in Baguiati's Jagatpur area, Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) mayor Krishna Chakraborty said that notices have been sent to the building owners. "The owners will be called to appear before the civic authorities in seven days. Steps will be taken as per law," she said.

BMC officials said that the G+4 building in Narayanpur, which has been fully evacuated, is likely to be demolished. All councillors have been asked to keep watch and inform if any tilted building is detected.
