Kolkata: Calcutta HC on Tuesday gave Midnapore Medical College Hospital's senior anaesthetist Pallabi Banerjee, one of the four doctors mentioned in the FIR for a woman's death there after her delivery, interim protection from arrest.
Banerjee was reportedly not at the OT, where a PGT had administered anaesthesia on expecting women. Five new mothers fell violently ill, one of whom died. Banerjee had moved HC against these charges.
Justice Tirthankar Ghosh directed the petitioner to cooperate with the probe. He ordered the records to be placed before the Chief Justice, who would determine if his court could take up the hearing, as a division bench, led by the Chief Justice, was hearing several PILs in the MMCH cases.
State counsel Swapan Banerjee had earlier said the division bench, led by CJ, had told the chief secretary to file a report on the death. "The entire thing will come out after the report is filed," Banerjee said.
