• Met spies warmer days ahead

  • Kolkata: While there was not much change in both the maximum and minimum temperatures on Tuesday, the Met office has hinted at a surge in the mercury in a day or two. At 14.6 and 25.9 degrees Celsius, the minimum and maximum temperatures respectively were slightly below the normal mark. Even as the mercury is expected to hover around the same mark on Wednesday too, an abrupt rise is possible from Thursday.

"It is going to get warmer in Kolkata with both the maximum and minimum temperatures likely to shoot above the normal mark from Thursday onwards," said a Met official.

According to sources in the Regional Meteorological Centre, the minimumcould touch 18 to 19 degrees in the next few days while the maximum could surge to 28 to 29 degrees. Met officials said an anti-cyclonic system developing over the Bay of Bengal is going to inject a good amount of moisture into the land, pushing up the mercury.

The city till Tuesday was getting the northerly wind at a slow pace. But once the anti-cyclonic circulation forms, the warm and moist southerly wind component will dominate. Met officials say the chance of the mercury climbing down is slim at least in the next seven days. Even as the mercury might climb down slightly after that, the chance of chill returning to the city is now less.
