• Bizman in centre of drama missing, flashy lifestyle talk of central Kol neighbourhood

  • 123 Kolkata: The "missing" businessman from central Kolkata, whose minor son and wife were apprehended on Friday for murdering his girlfriend near an eatery on EM Bypass on Thursday, was known to lead a "flashy" lifestyle, his neighbours told TOI. He was always seen moving around in an SUV that was found parked outside his flat on a narrow lane in central Kolkata. For those coming to look for him for business, this SUV helped them locate his home. It was the same SUV that was wrecked by his son on Bypass, said cops.

He settled here after coming from Giridih in Jharkhand and set up his car rental business, expanding it over time. His Instagram profile shows him to be a man "who lives by his own rules". He also had a massive presence on social media, though his extended family insists that was more to do with his business.

In contrast, his wife and son used to move only at designated times of the day. The 16-year-old son, a student of a central Kolkata English medium school, is the eldest of the four children, his siblings being all sisters. The youngest is as small as three and a half years," said neighbours.

"Everyone used to discuss about the bonding between the mother and son. Several daily chores, including dropping the sisters to school, were done by this teenager. We have come to know that the family has decided to shift the sisters to Jharkhand for now," said a neighbour.

"We did not see anything amiss, though lately, we heard arguments from the house. However, since they came to this neighbourhood barely half a decade ago, we could not connect much with the family," said Nazia Begum, another neighbour.

The deceased, Rafiya Shakil, worked at an IT firm in Rajarhat. Contrary to claims of their friendship through social media, locals said the victim initially worked as the businessman's personal assistant. Her family used to live in Narkeldanga, but they are currently living on and off at a rented flat in Rajarhat, too. Cops have also confirmed that she was married.

Prima facie, it has been reported that Rafiya left on Thursday evening, saying she would visit her grandmother. Cops will speak to her husband.
