The deputy branch manager at State Bank of India’s Jadavpur University branch has been arrested in connection with Rs 17 lakh fraud case. The accused, Sumon Kumar Singh (38), was arrested outside the bank premises and has been remanded to police custody until February 6.
The complainant, 82-year-old Santarani Ghosh, stated that her signature was forged and used to transfer the funds to other accounts.
Following her complaint, the Jadavpur Police Station registered the case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanvidhan (BNSS), including sections related to forgery, cheating, and criminal breach of trust.
During the investigation, the police visited SBI’s Jadavpur University branch and served a notice under Section 94 BNSS, demanding relevant documents. The documents provided by the bank, including account statements, were seized as evidence.
The police are also probing whether other customers have been affected by similar frauds.
